Csw - 121 Cabinetmaking for Home Owners I - Upper Cabinet

Class Summary: This is the first of a two courses covering the design and construction of cabinetry, shelving and storage units.  Practical application includes building an upper cabinet unit with adjustable shelves and doors.  In addition to tuition, there is a course materials fee.  Students are required to provide their own hearing and eye protection.

Class Details:  This course introduces the student to the essentials of good design and construction techniques for a wide range of cabinetry to include bookcases, storage units, kitchen and bath cabinets, closet systems, home office stations and entertainment centers. The student will be introduced the Festool Woodworking System and the safe and efficient use of that system in the construction of their project, an upper shelf storage cabinet with adjustable shelves and self-closing doors using Blum hardware

Materials

Structure

Aesthetics (size and proportion)

Layout

Plans

Machining

Glue-up and assembly

Prerequisites:  None

Mondays 12:00-2:30, or 6:30-9:00, or

Saturdays 9:00-11:30

CSW-122 - Cabinetmaking for Home Owners II - Lower Cabinet

Class Summary: The second of a two-course series that reinforces earlier instruction, introduces the student to the European 32mm system of cabinet making, and the use of cabinet and sliding table saws in the construction process.   Practical application includes building a lower cabinet unit equipped with drawers that matches with the previous course’s upper cabinet.   In addition to tuition, there is a course materials fee .

Students are required to provide their own hearing and eye protection.

Class Details:  This course continues the student’s education of design and construction techniques for a wide range of cabinetry to include bookcases, storage units, kitchen and bath cabinets, closet systems, home office stations and entertainment centers.  Topics of instruction include:

Miter Folding

Drawer Construction and slide installation

Internal Partitions

Cutting Sheet Goods on a Cabinet Saw and Sliding-Table Saw

Built-Ins

Pocket Hole Construction

Cabinet Installation

Leveling and Scribing of Built-Ins

The student will be introduced the cabinet saw and sliding table saw and their safe and efficient use in the construction of their project, a lower shelf storage cabinet with full extension drawers.

Prerequisites:  CSW 115:  Cabinetmaking for Home Owners - I

Price: $395.00 plus materials

Thursdays 7:00 - 9:30,  March 15 - May 10
